Day 38: Memorial Day
So with today being Memorial Day I figured I’d try to do something related. I ended up driving over to the nearby cemetery, walked around looking for any plots that had mention of former service as sort of a tribute to those that have served our country.
Oddly enough the flag they had flying at the cemetery was not at half mast like most of the other flags around town.
The first I came across was Mr Lenhard a WW2 vet. It’s amazing how many WW2 vets I came across here.
I was hoping to see more of this kind of display but unfortunately didn’t. Whoever set this up definitely did a beautiful job for Mr. Shedd a Vietnam veteran.
The one plot I came across that really made me go “wow” was that of USMC Colonel Cowing. A veteran of WW2, The Korean War and Vietnam. Obviously I never met Col. Cowing but to be a veteran of 3 wars tells me he’s one of America’s true heroes.
A few more shots after the jump. Again I’d like to thank all the men and women who have served our country, to those fallen you will never be forgotten.

An excellent subject for today!
Hadn’t checked your pictures lately. Glad I found this. Too many in this country do not appreciate the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. To many, Memorial Day is just another holiday. Freedom is never free. So sad that so many take the freedoms we enjoy for granted.
Thanks Dad, and thanks for your service as well. Men and women in uniform are America’s true heroes and you’re exactly right it is truly a sad thing how much people take for granted.
It saddens me that schools make Shakespeare mandatory reading yet books like Mike Durant’s “In the Company of Heroes” aren’t. It’s really quite saddening.
